Method

Every number on HYPESCRAPER comes from field reports people chose to post. That makes them honest in one way (nobody was paid or pushed to answer) and limited in another (they are self-selected, not a representative survey). We print that next to every number, and we always print n, the number of reports behind it.

The reality numbers

A report can carry three optional numbers, picked from fixed bands:

Team size: 1–10, 11–50, 51–200, 201–1000, 1000+.
Monthly AI spend: under €100, €100–1k, €1k–10k, €10k–50k, €50k+, or "don't know".
Still running after 90 days?: yes, rolled back, dead, or too early to say. The author can update this once, 90 days after the report went live.

Plus up to three AI providers or tools from a fixed list.

How we count

Still running after 90 days = yes ÷ (yes + rolled back + dead). "Too early" and empty answers are left out.
Typical monthly AI spend = the median band. "Don't know" is left out.
Percentages are rounded to whole numbers.
Example reports written by the editors, test content, and removed reports never count.

When we show a number

Public numbers (home page, Numbers page): only when n is 30 or more. Below that we say "still counting" and show n.
Pro benchmarks and report tables: only when a cell has n of 10 or more, labelled "small sample" below 30.
Any count from 1 to 9 inside a table is written "<10", and its percentage is not shown.
A provider or a team size appears on its own only when it has enough reports; the rest are grouped and labelled.

The daily question

One question a day, one answer per browser. Results are shown the next day at 17:00 Berlin time, and only when at least 30 people answered. It is a quick pulse, not a study.

Hype or real?

The claims are written by the editors from how the technology works and from what field reports keep describing. Each one shows its evidence after you swipe. A claim can be wrong; tell us via the flag button or the contact form.

Sorting

Today's best ranks reports from the last 14 days by Useful votes, minus half the Hype votes, weighted towards newer reports.
Best this week = Useful minus Hype, for reports from the last 7 days.
Only votes from accounts that passed basic checks (confirmed email, at least a day old) count.

Research questions

Members whose profile matches the sponsor's filters are invited. A response counts when every non-text item is answered, it took at least 30 seconds, and a moderator did not reject it as junk. Reports show totals only, never cross-tabs, plus at most 10 short quotes a person has checked. The method box in every research report lists the filters, the dates and n.

The Reality Report

A quarterly PDF built from the reality numbers above, with the same thresholds. The first edition appears once 200 complete reports exist (all three numbers and at least one provider). Later editions appear when a quarter adds at least 100 new complete reports. Row-level data is never sold; buyers of the yearly plan get the aggregate tables as CSV.
